How to Build Sandstone Steps

The sandstone steps in this DIY article are made only from ANL products which can be purchased from any of our stores.

Materials:

50mm Bullnose Sandstone
Sandstone Garden Edging
Sandstone Colonial Cladding
Opera House Cobblestones
Steel reinforcing
Timber form work
Besser blocks
Concrete premix
Blue Metal
Decorative Pebbles
Plants

Tools:

Shovel
Trowel
Level
Wheelbarrow
Bucket
Grinder





STEP 1: REMOVAL

If you are replacing old steps,
remove them to prepare your surface.




STEP 2: EXCAVATING

Excavate the area which you will
be laying your concrete footing.




STEP 3: REINFORCING

Install steel reinforcing and timber
form work.




STEP 4: FOOTING

Install concrete footings to support the
foundation of your steps.



STEP 5: FORM STEPS

Install Besser Blocks on top of
concrete footing to form the shape of
steps.


STEP 6: FILLING

Fill between Besser Blocks with Blue
Metal to strengthen the structure.



STEP 7: PAVERS

Install steel reinforced concrete pavers
on top of Besser Blocks.




STEP 8: SANDSTONE

Install Bullnose Sandstone treads and
risers.




STEP 9: INFILL

Install Opera House cobbles as an
infill between the sandstone.




STEP 10: WALLS

Install Colonial Cladding on walls.




STEP 11: GROUND FILL

Fill sides with pebbles or gravel as a
ground cover.



STEP 12: DECORATE

Place potted plants or garden features
as decoration.
