EPA PFAS INVESTIGATIONS - CENTRAL WEST
AUSTRALIAN NATIVE LANDSCAPES PTY LTD COMPOSTING FACILITY LOCATED AT
BROWNS CREEK ROAD, BLAYNEY NSW
Australian Native Landscapes Pty Ltd (‘ANL’) response to the article published by the ABC Central West on 10 April 2025 claiming that a composting facility as the most likely source of contamination of a river in the states’ Central West, further claiming that ANL is the PFAS source.
ANL refutes that our composting facility which composts organics residues including garden organics, FOGO, food waste, biosolids and forest residues is the source of this contamination.
The article refers to upstream and downstream (Cowriga Creek) samples taken by the EPA. These samples bear no association to ANL’s composting operations which are conducted in a separate area.
ANL has engaged qualified consultants who have determined that the water the EPA sampled originated in a separate underground aquifer which is totally unrelated to ANL’s composting operations.
ANL has agreed to continue to investigate where the underground water source is originating from.
ANL asserts that there is no PFAS contamination generated within our composting facility and our finished products which are distributed across the Central West in Agricultural, Horticultural, Landscape Soils, Composts and Mulching Products and are of the highest industry standards and do not contain any levels of PFAS that can be deemed harmful to humans, animals or the environment.
Although ANL is not legally obligated to test for PFAS, we will continue to test all our finished products and work closely with the EPA to understand where and how the underground aquifer has been impacted by the presence of PFAS.
